FM Borna Derakhshani (IRI)  rated 2283 won the U16 section with 5½/6 and Alex Garrido Outon  (ESP) rated 2055 won the U12 section 5½/6. Well done to them and to all the competitors for a fabulous and exciting tournament. More news to follow.

Despedida del Peñón de Gibraltar por Patricia Claros Aguilar

24.8.17 - Adiós a Gibraltar Junior 2017. Llegó a su fin, con una participación que ha batido los récords de las anteriores ediciones con 123 jugadores, proveniendo de 14 países, que durante 6 días han tenido un programa con actividades ajedrecísticas como un torneo de ajedrez relámpago, clases magistrales de ajedrez y simultaneas, con una combinación de actividades paralelas como una visita a los delfines, al Peñón, y una sesión de patinaje sobre hielo veranea y una visita a la bolera.

Monday

21.8.17 - Round 6 (of 6) took place today at 10.00. Both events have been fabulously competitive and played in a wonderful spirit. Congratulations all concerned.

 

Later today there was be a Dolphin Excursion followed by the Gala Dinner and Prize Giving | Full Schedule


Sunday

In the evening the very popular Masterclass sessions with the Professionals took place.


Saturday

19.8.17 - Round 3 took place today at 10.00. Results are here for U16 and here for U12 or see the top menu tab 'Pairings & Results'.

 

There was the popular Rock Tour and/or Leisure Centre visit followed by the Evening Simultaneous with the Professionals! They suffered a few defeats but many wins of course! A PGN of the games will follow but in the meantime you can replay the 39 games here.


 

 
   
 

La cantera conquista el Peñón de Gibraltar por Patricia Claros Aguilar

18.8.17 – Ha comenzado el VII Festival Internacional de Ajedrez Juvenil de Gibraltar. Ayer por la tarde se disputó un torneo de ajedrez relámpago en la playa y hoy se están disputando las dos primeras rondas. A las 20:00 horas habrá una clase magistral. El festival se lleva a cabo entre el 17 y el 22 de agosto de 2017. Los organizadores son los mismos que se encargan del Gibraltar Chess Festival, que se suele disputar en enero con los jugadores de la flor y nata del ajedrez mundial.

Gibraltar se convierte en la capital internacional del ajedrez junior

Arranca la séptima edición del Festival Internacional Junior de Ajedrez de Gibraltar con un récord de asistencia. Un total de 136 jóvenes procedentes de 15 países se ha inscrito para participar en el evento, que se celebrará en el Hotel Caleta en Gibraltar desde este jueves y hasta el martes, 22 de agosto.

Friday

18.8.17 - Rounds 1 and 2 took place on Friday at 10.00 and 15.00. Results are all here for U16 and here for U12 or see the top menu tab 'Pairings & Results'. Before the start of round 1 the prizegiving (winners here) for the Evening Blitz took place.


Thursday

17.8.17 - An exciting and busy schedule started today, Thursday, with the arrival of many more players and families to Gibraltar. There was the traditional Meet and Greet Reception followed by the ever-popular Evening Blitz at 18.30.

Beach Blitz Tournament

16.8.17 - The 2nd Seawave Beach Blitz tournament, a curtain raiser for young players, took place on Wednesday outside the Seawave restaurant in Catalan Bay, just a few minutes' walk from the Caleta Hotel. Six rounds were played with 21 players competing.

 

Congratulations to winner Teodor Baldur Petersson who scored 6/6 and to second placed Matthew Forster with 5/6. Click the green button for full details.

Free buses in Gibraltar

 

Young chess players and their families at the 2017 Gibraltar Junior International Chess Festival will receive free bus travel around the Rock, courtesy of the Gibraltar Bus Company Ltd., during their stay.

 

The Gibraltar Bus Company Ltd., wholly owned by HM Government of Gibraltar, operates seven services around the Rock.

 

The organisers of the Festival extend their thanks to the Gibraltar Bus Company for their generous hospitality on behalf of all participants.
